The Kentucky Fire Commission will be sponsoring an IFSAC Accredited Certification Firefighter 1 and 2 skills exam, March 17-18, 2012 in the Ashland vicinity.
Testing will be conducted at the Cannonsburg VFD, 2000 Cannonsburg Rd in the Cannonsburg community of Boyd County.
FF1 candidates need to report at 8:45am Eastern Time on Saturday morning for a 9am scheduled start of testing. Firefighter 2 testing will begin at 9am Sunday morning. FF1 testing includes stations for Hazardous Materials Operations testing, as Haz Mat Ops became a pre-requisite for FF1 on September 1st, 2008.
Testing requires the use of PPE, therefore candidates for testing are required to bring full PPE and SCBA. Each test day will expose the candidate to potential IDLH atmospheres with live-fire scenarios, therefore all candidates MUST be clean shaven to the point that facial hair does NOT come between the facepiece seal and the face.
Candidates may bring their own copy of all Kentucky FF1, FF2 and Haz Mat Operations skill sheets and/or a copy of the IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting to use as reference material. Testing DOES NOT break for lunch, light snacks will be available. Testing is expected to conclude by 3pm each day.

Candidates for testing MUST bring completed FF1, FF2 and Haz Mat Operations Certification Applications to the testing site. These applications must be signed by the department chief or designee attesting the candidates competency in the required job-performance objectives.
Candidates MUST ALSO BRING a picture ID such as a drivers license for identification purposes. ID must contain the firefighters date of birth.
alert.gifDo to current NFPA requirements for certification, candidates shall prove competency in basic medical training. Candidates shall bring a copy of a current CPR-Pro card (or equivelent) and current first aid card or higher state medical certification (FR, EMT or PM). Testing will be permitted without proof of medical training, however certification will be delayed until proof is provided.
